CUSTOM INVENTORY SYSTEM

The Custom Inventory System (CIS) is a personal database system. It has been specifically designed for anyone with an interest in collecting as a hobby. It’s most distinctive feature is the degree to which it can be customized after having been downloaded. There is no restriction to the types of collection that can be stored and even the layout of the main screen and reports can be modified as desired.

CIS does not have the size constraints of many PC-based databases. This is because it automatically accesses standard digital image files rather than needing to store these internally. Having the images as separate files also means that you can continue to use your existing software to browse, edit or even replace them. That being said, CIS does give you the additional option of viewing the pictures of your collected items at their full resolution – even when larger than your monitor.

The screen to view and edit details of your treasures will look something like the one shown at left (click images to expand). This particular screenshot was captured when using the “Coins” inventory type – one of 5 preconfigured types (along with banknotes, medals, perfumes and stamps). You are not, however, limited to these. You are, for instance, free to add, rename or delete fields and to create a new inventory type simply by providing a new name. So, whether your passion is for thimbles, pocket watches, pincushions, jewelry, matchbooks, swap cards – you name it – CIS has you covered. Of course, if you have more than one interest, you can switch between different catalogs with ease.
At a click of a button, the CIS can switch to slideshow mode – having this same screen cycle through the records of your collection.

If you just want a quick listing of your collection, that’s covered by the screen at right. The images will display as shown when the mouse pointer hovers over the relevant row.

Custom Inventory System statistics screen

The Custom Inventory System allows you to access aggregate information (such as total cost or average value) that can be summarised by most of the fields being used. This statistical data can be viewed in both tabular and graphical formats.
The CIS also automatically maintains a history of changes such as purchase, changed valuations and disposal. The statistics screen accesses this history allowing trends such as average cost or total number of records to be examined (either in tabular form or graphically).

If your collection is large, you will appreciate how the CIS assists you to quickly find a particular record.
• You can use the search screen (shown at right) to specify a what you are looking for – it even has options like “Any Field contains something”
Naturally, you can use <F3> to find the next match.
• You can use the Filter screen to restrict the records to be displayed. These filters allow multiple conditions to be combined.
• Buttons on the main details window let you specify a record by its record number or its name.

If you have already catalogued your collection on computer, you can greatly simplify upgrading to CIS by using its Import function.
This takes a CSV file (from saving a catalog spreadsheet or exporting from a catalog database), lets you specify how each column is to be stored and even shows where there is an issue.
